Cost Management & Value Engineering

Are we paying the right price, and controlling every change?

Who it's forOwners, developers and contractors.
When to engageConcept and schematic design for value engineering; pre-tender for budget and bid review; from the first variation through close-out.
EngagementDefined assignment or ongoing support through the project.
Overview

Spend where it adds value and control every rupee of change. We propose options to optimise capital cost without diluting design intent, and keep the commercial record clean from the first cost plan to the final account.

Scope of work

  • Cost planning & budget advisoryCost plans, budget benchmarking and risk identification.
  • Value engineering workshopsFunction-based review of design options and alternate materials to lower CAPEX, tested against running cost, maintenance and programme.
  • Procurement strategyProcurement routes and packaging to suit the business need and risk appetite.
  • Variation controlChange-order protocol, variation claim review and scope-change review, so no work goes unpriced.
  • Final account resolutionReconciling completed work, variations, escalation and contra-charges to close the account, the step where unresolved changes most often become disputes.

FAQ

Common questions

When should value engineering start?

As early as possible, ideally at concept or schematic design, when changes cost the least and save the most.

Who approves value-engineering changes?

The designer of record. Our proposals are advisory; the designer reviews them and retains design responsibility.

Do you work for contractors as well as owners?

Yes, but never for both sides on the same project. Every mandate starts with a conflict check.

Can you help close a final account that has stalled?

Yes. We reconcile completed work, variations, escalation and contra-charges, and set out the position clearly so it can be agreed or taken forward.

How are fees structured?

Usually as a defined assignment with a fixed or milestone fee, or as a monthly retainer while the project runs.
